Richard White Testimonial
"We were wonderfully welcomed into the EPC Mid-Atlantic Presbytery when we were dismissed from the PCUSA. Our session had already decided to enter the EPC rather than pursue any transitional status. Because our coming on board was to take place after the April meeting of the Mid-Atlantic presbytery, they formed a special commission at their April meeting. That commission came to our church on a Saturday in June and held a one day training event for our elders and deacons. The officers were then examined by some of the commission while I was examined separately by another group of the commission. Several folks from our congregation sat in on my exam. The commission asked questions regarding my walk with the Lord, my views on various theological issues (Authority of Scripture, Atonement), polity, and questions about personal life issues such as my use of money and sexuality. I was also asked to articulate areas where I was not in agreement with the WCF (Westminster Confession of Faith). My exam lasted about an hour. The exam for the officers was a written exam that was then read by the commission.
We all passed! The next day (Sunday) we held a special service of installation led by the EPC Presbytery of the Mid-Atlantic.
Our last two years in the EPC have been a breath of fresh air. I love going to Presbytery, as do our elders. We feel as if we are in great soil to grow in our vision of advancing the gospel locally and globally. We feel we are in stride with like-minded brothers and sisters, not striving against them. We have been supported enormously by prayers, encouragements and practical workshops at Presbytery to do ministry that is gospel centered. We feel like we are home!"
