Randy Jenkins Testimonial

“The process began with a conference call examination with the Ministry Committee. This consisted of questions on my views in 6 areas: Theology and Sacraments, English Bible, Book of Order, Reformed Tradition, and the nature of the office of Minister of the Word. The questions covered particulars such as: explain the difference between Covenant and Dispensational Theology and tell us which you hold to; relate to us the 5 Points of Calvinism, do you have any problems with any of these; tell us the documents that make up the Book of Order; relate your view of Baptism and the Lord’s Supper; in your view what are the important aspects of the office of Minister of the Word and how do your gifts fit them; in Romans chapter ____, Paul tells us the following…how do you interpret these verses. The conference call lasted approximately 90 minutes. I answered directly and then expanded upon my answers when the Ministry requested elaboration.

The examination on the floor of Presbytery followed the same format. There were four pastors being transferred in and we were each asked one question from each of the six areas. There was ample opportunity to take questions from the floor, and I believe I answered two or three. In both the conference call and the floor examination I was asked if I had any exceptions to Westminster: I did, in the area of the Sabbath. As a transfer from another recognized Reformed body I was examined on my views. My experience was positive, the questions were not difficult and I found the attitude of those asking the questions to be that of giving me the opportunity to give honor and glory to Christ.

The particular process of each presbytery differs, so it will not be exactly the same across the country. I felt Central South wanted to make certain that I was Reformed in my beliefs and views – I was told after the examination that I was sufficiently Reformed.

The process was certainly more involved than any I experienced previously, but I expected it to be so. I look forward to going through the process again.”
